Financial recruitment firm opens new Manchester office space

Howarth Morris, an independent North West financial recruiter, has opened a Manchester office based in Sale.

This new office should help to capitalise on rapid company growth and bring the total number of offices to four (including the new Liverpool office), also recruiting Thandi Barnes to join the management team in the new office.

Google takes new office space in Dublin business park

Search engine giant Google has announced plans to take 40,000 sq ft of office space at a business park in Dublin.

The firm will set up a new ops division in East Point Business park in the Irish capital which will work to improve geo-tagging services, such as Google Maps. Google will hire approximately 200 new people for this office.

East Point business park has also recently secured a 40,000 sq ft letting to Yahoo! in Q2 of this year.

One in five workers commutes more than 90 minutes every day

Long-distance commuting is still the norm in spite of progress in flexible working practices with 20% of commuters travelling over 90 minutes every day, finds global workplace solutions provider, Regus.

Although the average commute length is 25 minutes, a disheartening one in ten commuters travels more than an hour to and from the place of work. Cars are by far the most popular form of commuter transport (64%).

For 66% of UK workers those long commutes are spent stuck in a car while the public transport system is the best option for another 19%. Only 9% of workers are close enough to their place of work to be able to cycle or walk.

Mixed use Sunderland office space development to start early next year

A £10m mixed use development based in Sunderland is set to begin construction early next year following developers St Modwen receiving planning consent.

The plot of land for the site measures 17 acres and will create approximately 16,000 sq ft of office space as well as accommodation for families.

St Modwen acquired the site in 2009 and holds significant importance in the regeneration plans for the city centre, demonstrating a great deal of potential for the area.

Owners of Tower 42 office space take property off the market

As office space rents soar alongside demand, the owners of the Tower 42, formerly the NatWest Tower, have taken the building off the market.

The 600 ft skyscraper, which offers 342,000 sq ft of office space, was taken off the market in a move that will capitalise on rising rents across the financial district of London.

Law firm find new Manchester office space in Ship Canal House

HBJ Gateley Wareing, a nationwide law firm that recently took on 200 staff after the collapse of Halliwells, has signed for office space a in newly-refurbished property on King Street.

The law firm will be moving from their current location in Halliwells’ headquarters at Hardman Square, Spinningfields, into Ship Canal House, occupying 31,000 sq ft of office space over 31,000 sq ft and expect to be moved in by the end of Q3 2010.

Lancashire Retail Park finalises first phase but fails to attract any businesses

The much-maligned New Hall Hey retail park in Rawtenstall, Lancashire, has finally been completed, after a number of setbacks had severely halted progress.

Beginning construction three years ago, the multi-million pound park faced complete termination after contractors Hurstwood Group went into administration, forcing work to halt for around 18 months. The first phase of the site has finally been completed; however it has yet to secure any business interest.
