The Greenhouse office and residential project praised by minister

An eco-friendly housing and office project in Office space Leeds serviced officesLeeds has been praised for its energy saving features by Energy and Climate Secretary Chris Huhne.

The Greenhouse building comprises of 15,000 square feet of office space and 166 flats. It generates its own heat using solar panels and two wind turbines, according to the BBC. This means that residents and tenants enjoy 60% lower energy bills.

Water is extracted through a borehole in the ground and showers and toilets run on recycled rain water. Residents also have access to an allotment and can participate in a shared bicycle scheme.

Mr Huhne visited the site earlier this month and said: “There are enormous gains to be made for householders. It’s win-win. It’s a win for the residents because they’re getting lower energy bills and a very pleasant environment to live in. It’s a win for all those who’ve been involved in the project because it’s profitable and can be repeated.”

He added: “And it’s a win for the country, because it’s not only creating jobs but also saving energy and therefore making us less reliant on – often volatile – imports of gas and oil.”

The office space in the green building features floor to ceiling windows, which make the most of the natural light that floods in during the day. A total of four floors of office space make up the eco-friendly complex and tenants benefit from a free on-site private gym, a deli, secure underground parking and shower facilities that have been incorporated to promote cycling to work.

Work spaces are available from 500 square feet to 4,900 square feet.
