Virtual technology comes to the fore

New technology offers us all flexible working potential with virtual offices, hot desking and mobile working practices.

Location and time are not issues anymore and the constrictions of the typical 9 to 5 day have been all but wiped out. Email services offer extremely efficient and fast communication and the various video conferencing packages are bringing people all over the world together like never before.

Like all technologies before, things do take time and effort before people see the value they have. A good example of this is the internet itself. It took 10 years to evolve into what it is today. It has grown massively from an information resource to become a communication centre where we can all connect with people all over the world.

Instant messaging and VOIP are becoming increasingly popular as the cost benefits of using them are huge. More and more companies are putting procedure is place that allow the use of such technology as they have realised that the savings year on year over traditional communication methods are not to be ignored.

Skype for example is arguably the largest VOIP application and has seen its usage grow some 181% since 2007 as businesses abandon the costly face to face meetings.
