Wates appointed as contractor for Hammersmith Grove office scheme

British contractor Wates has been appointed to begin construction work on an office development in Hammersmith Grove by Development Securities.
The 275,000 square foot office project will include the construction of two buildings to the north of Lyric Square in West London.
Based adjacent to the Hammersmith & City line station, the development will comprise of 110,000 square feet of office space and 6,000 square feet of cafes, restaurants and public space.
Scottish Widows Investment Property Partnership Trust (SWIPPT) funded the initial development phase in October 2011 by providing £50 million of capital.
Construction will start immediately and is is due to be completed in 2013.
Director of Development Securities Julian Barwick said: “Our scheme at Hammersmith Grove is set to deliver some of the best new office space in West London into a tightly supplied market. The scheme will play an important part in the regeneration of Hammersmith’s town centre, attracting first-class occupiers to this prime location.”

Wates was established over 100 years ago and was named Contractor of the Year in 2011 by the Construction News Awards. The firm also received the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Sustainable Development and the BiTC Company of the Year Award.
Completed projects include the restoration of a Victorian Leisure Centre in Camden, the construction of the
Chelsea Academy building and the £11 million renovation of Murray Mills in
Manchester for the Heritage Works Building Preservation Trust.
